In three easy steps you can cook up a suet cake to feed the small birds that visit your garden. With your stock of ingredients you can make more when they have polished off the first cake.....they very quickly get use having food available.
Ratio:- 1 part suet/fat:2 parts seeds etc
I recommend weighing the ingredients first so they are ready to go. You can see that I have used porridge, mixed seeds, sultanas and mealworms. You can also use crunchy peanut butter, dried berries, grated cheese.
Melt the suet in water very slowly to avoid it separating, I used 50g suet:50g water.
Stir in your ingredients.
Decant the mix into your container and firm down with the back of a metal spoon.
Put into the fridge for 2 to 3 hours. And then hang for the birds to feast.
If you don't have a 'cage' to put the cake into you can use a yoghurt pot or a fairy cake case as a mold. Just ensure that you thread string through the base of the pot or case before putting the mix in and refridgerating so that when it is ready you can remove the mold and have something to hang the cake with.
